Train Hard, Keep it Fun

Here was my solution to the perfect training weekend in preparation for my bigger races coming up.
On Saturday morning I woke up and felt as though I was preparing for a triathlon minus the swim. I got my bike and gear in my 4 runner and grabbed my Newtons and running clothes. First stop of my morning was the Law day 5k held on the University of Utah campus. I was invited onto a 5 man team to race it. I decided to rename the race …

A palindrome reads the same backwards as forward. This video reads the exact opposite backwards as forward.  Not only does it read the opposite, the meaning is the exact opposite. This is only a 1 minute, 44 second video and it is brilliant.   Make sure you read as well as listen…forward and backward.  A 20 year old submitted this. It is amazing, incredible and is a huge indicator of the beautiful and incredible minds on the horizon of our planet.  I was awestruck.  Have an amazing day and know we create …

Ebb and Flow

Amazing video Over the last 10 years I have noticed how as I ride the waves in the ocean of life, sometimes I fall with my face buried deep into the sand. Just when I am about to give in to the relentless force of the turbulent water, it pulls away and I am left on the shore catching the deepest breath I could ever imagine.  The ebb and flow of life and what we consider to be “good” and “bad” are the things that make life the richest. …

Am I Getting Enough Sleep?

Diet, the perfect training plan, massage, icing, mind strength. The list goes on and on. These are all incredibly important aspects to help one reach their athletic potential. Often, one of the key ingredients we don’t take seriously until it is too late is proper rest. How many hours of sleep do you get per night? Do you take days off? What about tapering? What about just listening to your body for signs when it needs a break, even when the schedule screams, NO! …

Speedwork Made Fun!

One of my favorite workouts I look forward to each week is a great speed workout. So many struggle with these. I hear comments that they are too hard, boring, or they can’t keep pace the entire time, and on and on. The solutions can actually be so simple. My first recommendation to solve the problem is to either meet up with a running group on their speed workout days or to find some friends with similar abilities. This will help two things. Motivation and …

Yoga On the Road

One of the things I love the most about traveling is that I take the opportunity to check out different yoga studios.  I believe that my practice has become very well rounded because I seek out so many different teachers and styles.  Of course my favorites have always been Astanga and intense vinyasa flow as they suit my personality.  This weekend I am in the Gaslamp district of San Diego.  The incredible studio I practiced in this morning is Infinite Yoga.  I took the advanced Improv class.
Here is how studio …

Slowing Down Can Make You Fast

I just returned from a fantastic weekend where I drove with a good friend to Ketchum Idaho for the final La Sportiva Mountain running series race. Before I get going on this, I will say that this company and everyone I have ever met whom is associated with it is absolutely amazing. Youthful, happy, strong, fast, and beautiful is what each person I have met emulates. Buzz Burrell put out a fantastic race report on the closing event which includes a quote from me which I am happy …

Become Like a Child

For most of us, we began to compete in a sport because it was fun.  For some it made us feel like a kid again.  For others, it was pure stress relief, social connection, a way to lose weight, get out of the house, learn something new, and the list goes on an on.
When the training/competition gets tough, or we get tired, injured, burnt out, lost?  A negative energy can become a block for something that at one time brought us so much joy.  This time of year is common …
